Today we got up bright and early and went for a site inspection at the Westin Hotel, totally different to the Westin Kaanapali Villas we had been staying in. This place had some amazing views and real flamingos in the fountains!
We had breakfast there which was buffet style and I had Eggs benedict and waffles, I’d never tried waffles. After the site inspection we got to go to Lahaina town for some free time. I did a bit of shopping, presents for other people mostly. I bought Dali a shirt with The Big Kahuna on it which I though was really cute. I bought myself a scary looking Polynesian mask for my wall.
We also went past Bubba Gump Shrimp which until now, I had thought only existed in the Forrest Gump movie. I had my picture taken outside the shop.
After our free time we met Tom at the Hard Rock Cafe and had an awesome lunch overlooking the ocean. I had ribs which we over a foot long, I didn’t know pigs had that many ribs. I also had a cocktail called a Blue Devil, possibly the best cocktail ever invented, made with Captain Morgan’s Rum. I also had a long island iced tea, which I had to skull as we were running late. Before we left, we all got to pick free T Shirts and were given a Hard Rock Cafe cocktail glass. Awesome.
We then drove to meet our guide for out ATV adventure, which I had been feeling a bit dubious about. The ATV’s were actually dune buggies! I did get a bit scared on the way up the mountain, but when we got there, there was a small lake with makeshift waterslides leading into it. By this time all the girls in the group had developed a crush on our guide Josh….isn’t it always the way in the US? The hot guy is always called Josh?
We played around on the slides for about an hour and then headed back down the mountain. Thank God I had gotten used to the buggies by this time, I was still a bit scared for my Quad bike accident in Cappadocia last year.
By the time we got back to the ranch we were all filthy from the dust, which was kinda cool. We drove back to the hotel and had 10 minutes to get ready for dinner at the Sheraton, which we all thought was a bit ridiculous, being as dirty as we were.
Dinner was great at the Sheraton and Ryan the manager, got the bar staff to make us all really strong Mai Tai’s, the traditional Hawaii cocktail. They were like rocket fuel.
After dinner we headed back to the Westin and Laura and I had a drink in her room, (with the free champagne given to us by the Westin) and then went off to bed.
