10 February 2010
We left our bush camp at 7am and headed for the town of Swakopmund, which we reached in about three hours. We were taken straight to an adventure activities shop and some of the group went sky diving that day. I elected to go sand boarding tomorrow and on a dolphin cruise the next day.
We went and checked in to the A Frames bungalows, the excitement in the group about sleeping in real beds was rife. Siobhan and I went for a walk around the town for a bit, before coming back and getting ready to go out for dinner with the group. I managed to get half dressed up and most of the group were astounded that I had managed to bring heals and joked about why I had the heaviest bag on the trip.
We went to a restaurant called Neapolitanas and I managed to eat another of the local animals, Oryx, which was nice, but not quite as good as the Springbok I tasted in Cape Town. Wow, Cape Town, as I write that, it seems so far away.
After dinner, we went to a night club called “Cool Bananas”, which we all stayed at until the early hours of the morning. I played pool for a big chunk of the night and danced on the stage. Here I am supposed to be experiencing new things, doing pretty much the same as I would back home, except with different people.
We got turfed out of the club at about 2am and went back to the hotel. Dave and Sarah had given us a few Dragoman stickers and in our drunken state we decided to sabotage the Intrepid truck, which was parked nearby. I can’t remember when I last laughed that much. We stayed up for a bit longer listening to music on my laptop, which was pretty funny when I discovered Phil doesn’t like the song “American Pie”, I kept pretending to turn it off and then came back again with “Just kidding” which made me and Emmett pretty much hysterical.
