This morning, I checked out of my lovely room at the Westin and proceeded down to the beach for my surf lesson. The guy teaching us kind of reminded me of chicken in the movie Surfs Up, and he seemed like a walking stereotype. He also had his little daughter Madison there who was already showing us all up.
We were told how to lean and how to stand up on the board before we went and got into the water. We paddled out to the surf; I only made it about half way before our instructor decided to tow me out there. I had a go at riding the waves and was surprised at how fast it was! I rode my wave all the way to the beach. You’re not actually supposed to do that and I got stuck on the beach and had to paddle back out.
I lazed around on my board for a while, before deciding to go back to the beach and have a sunbake. Lying on a beach in Maui is awesome.
After our surf lesson, we went and checked into our new hotel. The Marriott at Wailea. Now you may think this is silly, but I have always wanted to stay at the Marriott, ever since I was 11 years old, and my family attempted to get on the Marriott courtesy bus to get back to our hotel when we were at Disneyland and were chucked off. The Marriott was beautiful, the lobby was especially impressive, we had a site inspection there and then went to our rooms.
We all decided to go for a swim in the adults only infinity pool and I took my underwater camera and got some great shots. We then had to go get ready for our site inspection on the ship the Pride of America. The ship was very interesting and wonderfully tacky, but the inspection seemed to go one forever, especially for me who had worn the most inappropriate footwear for a two-hour long ship inspection.
We then got to have dinner on the ship in the restaurant which was New York themed, and our waiter made funny animals and sculptures out of our napkins. The food was a bit average and so was the service, I think I asked for a Coke about 5 times.
After our site inspection we decided to go shopping for a bit and Ben who was driving the car ended up on the wrong side of the road and none of us noticed until there was a car coming the other way. It was a bit of a laugh, but a little scary.
