Never ending – Kas

Today I set off from Fethiye with an empty bus. I drove straight to Kaş and spent the first half an hour trying to explain to my non English speaking bus driver that he was going to Olimpos without me to meet Amanda. I checked into my room at Ani Pension and went out for a walk. This place must be closer to the sun than other places in Turkey, it’s the hottest place I’ve ever been here.

Apparently, there’s lots of Lycian ruins around the place but after a few brief treks up the towns many hills in 45+ degree heat I quickly gave up and went and had lunch in a cafe and actually managed to get my hands on a real hot dog! I walked up to the Kings tomb and managed to find a few more Lycian tombs littered around the town…it staggers me that some of them have actually been graffitied. One particular one is actually a common wall between two houses!

I walked around for a bit more before coming back to the pension and using the net for a bit. I hadn’t been back long when Harry from Olimpos walked in. He’s doing his visa run tomorrow too. We had a beer and then went out and had a bit of a look around together, Harry of course had a shopping list of stuff to get for the people at Olimpos, so I gave him a hand getting it, having been to Kaş eight times already.

Relaxing in a hammock in Kas

We came back to the pension both drenched in sweat from the uphill walk and I fell asleep in the hammock on the roof. I was woken by a phone call from Amanda saying that my bus driver hadn’t gotten to Olimpos yet. It never ends! I thought to myself. I thought getting two people to explain things to him in Turkish was idiot prof…apparently not. I sorted out that dilemma, apparently he had gone all the way to Antalya to fix something on the bus, strange there was nothing wrong with it when I left him.

Harry and I are going to go out drinking tonight, I need to have a bit of fun and a drink after the last five days of chasing my tail.
