Days Inn - Hollywood/Universal

Rating: 3 Stars
Location: You couldn’t want a better location, about 5 minutes to Hollywood Boulvard.
Details: I find it hard to review this place without being overly harsh, so I’ll start with the good points.
The location is excellent, it is literally a five minute walk to the Hollywood strip and the famous Chinese theatre. The price is very reasonable, especially when you consider the location, it was about $250AUD per night in the high season. It has a pool, which looks clean and free continental breakfast included in the price. When you read the reviews on trip advisor, you will read people whinging about the breakfast, a lot. These are people who in my opinion expect far too much, they’re probably also the people I saw stealing the breakfast food, to take out with them for lunch. They had secure parking, which is charged at a flat rate of $10 per day and they managed to have a room ready by about 12pm, instead of 3pm. There is also an In N Out Burger right next door which is one of the best burger joints in the US.
The bad things, I was fairly angry about paying extra for a balcony and receiving a ground floor room, with a sliding door with a couple of railings across the door. That, is not a balcony. The room we were in was also near the stairs up to the second floor and the entry to the pool so we had to put up with a lot of noise. It was also opposite the supply closet and it was actually the maids who made the most noise (talking, not cleaning) and woke me up in the morning. The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything people in the other rooms, outside the room and above the rooms are saying and doing. I'm a very heavy sleeper, so to wake me up the noise has to be substantial.
Overall, it’s a really well priced hotel, with a great location. Just don’t book here if you happen to be a light sleeper.
